ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) AMONG TRAFFIC CONSTABLES WORKING IN SOUTHERN CHENNAI - A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY

Background:Basic Life Support (BLS) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies like heart attacks, drowning and accidents. BLS the initial step of prompt recognition to provide emergency support ventilation circulatory case respiratory or cardiac arrest. The Traffic Police who would be discharging his duty nearby accident can help much saving lives victims RTA with knowledge BLS. In India basic techniques are not offered Police. Hence training Constables will result improvement survival rates RTA. Objective:To assess Basic among traffic constables working Southern Chennai. Methods:An interventional study design was used. Greater Chennai were included study. A semi structured questionnaire used on constables. Then post intervention given based they gained. Result:In our sample, most policemen age group 31- 40 years (47.1%) other 36.5 % 41-50 age. Almost participants married. Among participants, more than 10 experienced people have adequate knowledge. Remaining them need information regarding Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. participant, 60% Conclusion:BLS an integral part for first aid. present revealed comprehension familiarity attitude towards training.The results indicate that there sufficient overall awareness police officers significant improvements needed save lives.
